VISUAL ARTIST

An independent Florida-based writer, director, and editor working in narrative and commercial film production.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

My art employs narrative storytelling to investigate the construction of social reality and the contributing factors to contemporary isolation, primarily through short-form filmmaking and tableau photography. I draw upon film genres and their conventions to portray scenes of disillusionment and escapism. My work ultimately considers what it means to live in a predominantly mundane reality — a status quo where perception is more regularly channeled through representation than the ‘real world’.

In collaboration with film production crews, my practice applies the visual language, logistical operations, and apparatuses of traditional cinema. As a result of this methodology, the work often adopts a characteristic of fictionality — further supporting an interrogative intersection between the artifice and the actual. Additionally, through the engagement of antimimetic narrative, I survey the properties of temporality, continuity, multiplicity, and perspective in visual storytelling; this contributes to the evolving dialogue on how filmic language can be reinterpreted in contemporary photography and visual art.
